In the great white room there was a silent clock and no writer’s block, a huge drying rack and drinks to knock back, future children’s toys and all the usual noise, moveable parts with a few stops and starts, zero mock ears and things engineered.

Borrowing tactics from children’s books, Sarah Hotchkiss presents new sculptures and double-sided paintings made with grown up tools. At a certain point, logic turns and what was once familiar feels unexpected and strange. Everyday objects change shape, gain mass or flatten, while patterns glom onto the wrong surfaces altogether. New characters enter without introduction and carry the story away. While it takes a cue from oral storytelling, All Ears is an exhibition with no ears at all.
